Skype & Verizon VoIP iPhone Application
Rumors have been rife, but finally an announcement has been made which confirms that Skype and Verizon are to release a new custom made application for the iPhone allowing Skype VoIP mobile calls to be made using the ever popular Smartphone.
The VoIP calling application will be free and will be available for Smartphone users with an existing voice and data plan. Verizon’s new and existing customers will benefit from being able to connect with over 500 Million Skype users globally.
Reports confirm that the new VoIP app will be available on nine of Verizon’s mobile devices including the BlackBerry Storm, the Curve, Tour complete with Google’s Android platform mobiles including the Motorola Devour, Motorola Droid and the Droid Eris.

You are right, but the usage of skype or voip needs stable and enough bandwith for voip. Especially outside the big cities there is no UMTS avaiable – only GPRS. I have tried, but with GPRS voip is not really funny. Better to use call trough solution then. But inside cities it works very well.
